Books coming in!
over 4 years ago – Sun, Aug 18, 2019 at 02:20:28 AM

More and more of you guys are reporting your hardcopies are coming in. Many are noting the quality of the book, and I concur that Livonia did a great job.

With only some small worry of being overly cute: "If you see something, say something."

What's that? One recent reviewer noted that surplus supplies of the book may be limited. Well, I hope so! I have maybe 300 or so left over after printing about 700 of them. This could last a while, or, if folks that skipped this Kickstarter but DO have the boxed set, or retail stores, take an interest, well, they could go quickly.

I want to them to go quickly. In fact, I want them to go so quickly that I have to commit to a 1,000-copy reprint.

But for that, I need your help. Write a review or discuss the book somewhere. If you have a blog, put it there; if you frequent one of the many RPG forums or Reddits, put it there. Talk about it on Facebook, or even Twitter. If you have a lot to say, but no forum, send me your thoughts and I'll publish them on the Gaming Ballistic blog roll.

But the only way to keep giving you more and more of this stuff - and that includes topics and ideas beyond "yay, Vikings" - is to get more of the 1,587-or-more folks with DFRPG in their hands to pick up the book. (1,587 is the number of Kickstarter backers; that doesn't include any follow-on sales, about which I have no information at all.)

Beyond that: it might surprise you guys (or maybe not) how little feedback game authors receive.

US Physical Fulfillment has begun
over 4 years ago – Thu, Aug 08, 2019 at 08:56:05 PM

I heard back from Studio 2 today. The orders are being picked, packed, and shipped as of today, and this process should be complete by next week, maybe late next week for the 11 folks that also ordered Lost Hall of Tyr 2.0 (40 books are on the way there right now, mailed yesterday; they moved surprisingly well over the last two months, plus USPS lost 20 of my books en route, so there was a temporary shortage).

Anyway, this means that by the end of the month, all physical orders will be complete with a few exceptions:

  • The biggest is for anyone who ordered shields. On THAT front, I have to apologize; the house move I did in May utterly destroyed my workspace, but that will be ready to change this weekend, having finally gotten enough room on the floor of the new garage to actually do the work. I've already cut the wood. I need to assemble the four shield blanks needed (which is where I need the actual space), and then the rest should be faster.
  • The next is for 14 folks that have ordered Dungeon Grappling (NOT Fantastic Dungeon Grappling; plenty of those are on hand). I received word today that the proof copy for the reprint is in the mail. If that is of similar quality to the last batch I got from Publisher's Graphics, I'll approve the full order and should have them ready to go out very soon. I'll ship those individually to those who have ordered them at my own expense.
  • Finally, the aforementioned 11 folks who ordered Lost Hall 2.0. Those will go out as soon as the books arrive, but later in the shipping process than others. These may wind up seeing no delay at all.

So we're very close to putting a bow around this thing. Thanks for your patience and support.

Speaking of support: a quick word or a review with a link to my blog store would be incredibly helpful in moving books.

Closer and Closer
over 4 years ago – Mon, Aug 05, 2019 at 03:24:26 PM

The books have arrived at the Container Freight Station in Greenville, South Carolina. I think.

From Greenville to Knoxville is a three-hour drive. So once the books get out of the container and the right shipper and route is found to take them there, I expect that it's basically going to be a case - very nearly - of me getting the email that "they've shipped" and "oh, they've arrived!" in rapid succession.

So, I said July, and it'll wind up being August. Not wild about that, but things should be moving in the USA Real Soon Now, and assuming that the books arrive at Studio 2 sometime this week, we should start to see shipments going out the week after, and arrival 1-2 weeks after that.

It's Customary

The books made landfall, and are currently being processed through customs. That and unloading can be short, or it can take a long time. I'll keep you updated.

But the books are in the country and emails have been going back and forth today with the various brokers, receivers, and agencies to get the paperwork all straightened out.

I still think we're "on schedule" to be a few weeks late to books-in-hand. But we've not lost any more time, and the possibility exists to make some of it up, but that's in the hands of fate, really: where are we on the container ship, the container, and the pickup list kind of things.

More news as I have it.

Landfall: July 26
almost 5 years ago – Tue, Jul 23, 2019 at 06:29:10 PM

I've received word that the ship with Nordvorn, HoJ2, and Fantastic Dungeon Grappling will come into port on the East Coast July 26.

That doesn't mean "woo, hoo! Delivery starts then!" It means the process of clearing customs and reshipment to Studio 2 for distribution begins. That process can take time, perhaps as much as a month. Once they arrive at Studio 2, the work of pick, pack, and ship can begin and 1-2 weeks later US folks will have their stuff.
