Latest Updates from Our Project:

The Nordlond Sagas Campaign is now LIVE!
over 4 years ago – Tue, Sep 10, 2019 at 04:58:52 PM

At 10:30 central time on Sept 10, the latest Kickstarter for Gaming Ballistic launched: Nordlond Sagas for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG.

It hopes to fund three products, all set in the Norðlond setting and supporting the Dungeon Fantasy RPG with more full-color, 8x10 books.

The Dragons of Rosgarth
48 or 64 pages
This setting expansion and adventure scenario details the towns of Midgard and Jarngarðr, and provides a looming threat worthy of a party of seasoned delvers. Targeted at four to six delvers of 300 points or more. Written by Kyle Norton (Dungeons on Automatic).

Forest's End
64 or 80 pages
The King proclaimed that lands and titles were newly available for those bold enough to hold them. One thegn, more than bold enough to take up the King's challenge, built a fortified settlement near where the forest meets the sea: Skógarenda . . . Forest's End. The thegn is ready to claim his rightful status as lord and jarl. A great feast is planned. What could go wrong?

Forest's End features several threats and three actual dungeons to delve for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG! Written by Merlin Avery.

Norðlondr Fólk
16 pages
Sixteen playable racial templates to supplement those from Dungeon Fantasy Adventurers, including Norðlond-specific versions of elves and dwarves. Also dragon-blooded, children of humans and demons, and other hybrids, such as raven-folk and those who are brothers and sisters to bear and boar. Written by Kevin Smyth.

About 10 minutes to launch! As with all small-publisher efforts, the best thing you can do to help is (a) first back the campaign, and then (b) talk about it somewhere else. Share the link, say why you're excited to be a part of the campaign, a comment on facebook, anything. It's amazing how that sort of network effect can drive a campaign.

Let's see if we can break the old DFRPG record for Gaming Ballistic of 600 backers, and the all-time record for me of 610 from The Fantasy Trip.

Nordlond Sagas for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG

[Edit: It's off to a strong start, with 11% funding in the first hour.]

Coming Next Week: Nordlond Sagas
over 4 years ago – Sun, Sep 08, 2019 at 12:55:18 AM

You guys have so far funded three Dungeon Fantasy RPG books from Gaming Ballistic.

Hall of Judgment was my first license from SJG, and you guys showed up strong. Then came the more recent Citadel at Nordvorn, and not only did you throw down for that, it also brought a second edition of Hall of Judgment with a much, much better printing, and a stand-alone booklet: Fantastic Dungeon Grappling.

We’re not going to string the products out for you this time. Gaming Ballistic is thrilled to announce that next week marks the launch of the Nordlond Sagas crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

It will bring you three unique books, all written by new authors, and all set in the ever-expanding Nordlond setting.

The Dragons of Rosgarth

48 pages (64 if we hit a stretch goal)

This setting expansion and adventure scenario details the towns of Midgard and Jarngarðr, and provides a looming threat worthy of a party of seasoned delvers. Targeted at four to six characters of 300 points or more. Written by Kyle Norton (Dungeons on Automatic).

The Ruins of Rosgarth are occupied again, this much is certain. But mining caravans and logging expeditions are being threatened by growing hordes of undead, as well as surging ranks of dragonkin. Wizards and clerics alike are muttering uneasily as they feel the disturbance in the land, and the Aesir whisper in the dreams of heroes. Journey into the wilds north of Audreyn’s Wall to Rosgarth Ruins. Investigate the source of the danger . . . and defeat it if you can.

Forest’s End

64 pages (80 if we hit a stretch goal)

The King proclaimed over a year ago that for the first time in centuries, the ranks of the nobility would be expanding, with lands available for those bold enough to hold them. The catch? The lands lay beyond Audreyn’s Wall, where dragonkin roam, giants dwell, and all manner of creatures make their lairs.

And yet, the Dragonground, as they are called, are home to countless ruins and dungeons, plus abandoned broken ley line junctions . . . and the boundless and magical wealth of the fallen empire of the Dragon Queens. One thegn, more than bold enough to take up the King’s challenge, built a fortified settlement near where the forest meets the sea: Skógaenda. . . Forest’s End.

A year has past, and the settlement has thrived. The thegn is ready to claim his rightful status as lord and jarl. A great feast is planned. What could go wrong?

Forest’s End features several threats and three actual dungeons to delve for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG! Written by Merlin Avery.

Norðlondr Fólk

16 pages

This short supplement brings at least 16 different playable racial templates to supplement those from Dungeon Fantasy Adventurers. Including Nordlond-specific versions of elves and dwarves, it also provides ties to other cosmology for the setting: dragon-blooded, children of humans and demons, and other hybrids, such as raven-folk and those who are brothers and sisters to bear and boar. With new traits available for every Dungeon Fantasy race, this book allows you to tie all of the “usual suspects” in with the Nordlond setting and bring some entirely new abilities to your games. Easily portable to other settings. Written by Kevin Smyth, who was deeply involved with writing and proofing the pre-generated characters from Hall of Judgment.

Goals, Duration, and Pledge Levels

Depending on approval, the campaign will launch either Sept 10 or Sept 12 (next Tuesday or Thursday) and run through October 12.

It has an initial funding goal of $15,000, and two important stretch goals

  • The first stretch goal is at 300 physical copies. At that point, we upgrade to a higher-quality printing, at the same printer that did Citadel at Nordvorn and Hall of Judgment 2nd Edition.
  • The second stretch goal is at $29,000. At that point, there’s enough funding to ensure that Rosgarth and Forest’s End can both be expanded by 16 pages.

The pledge levels are offered as a bundle including all three books. This is necessary for printing cost efficiency as well as to get the loyal DFRPG customers more stuff in 2019.

If you missed Hall of Judgment and Citadel at Nordvorn, there’s also both digital and physical tiers to get all the books, all at once. Plus two retail levels for those who would like to cover the line.

September: A GREAT Month for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG

In case you missed it, you might miss it.

Coming To Kickstarter Next Week: Dungeon Fantasy Magic Items 2

This is a verbatim copy/paste of the Daily Illuminator Announcement. Please note that when Phil says "it won't be open long), he means it: it runs next week only, from Monday Sept 2 through Friday Sept 6. Don't expect to pop in on the weekend and pledge. Make plans now.

As we mentioned earlier this month, Sean Punch has finished a new expansion to the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game . . . and it is going to Kickstarter next week! This "Quickstarter" campaign is scheduled to launch on Monday and will run until Friday, September 6, at which point we will move forward with printing the new book.

For those of you who backed the Dungeon Fantasy Monsters 2 campaign earlier this year, we're happy to report that the books arrived in Austin earlier this week and we've started packing and shipping rewards. Many of you in the U.S. will see your packages very soon, maybe even next week if all goes well!

Physical rewards in the new Dungeon Fantasy Magic Items 2 Kickstarter campaign will only be offered to U.S. backers; those of you outside the United States may select the PDF option. Once we have shipped the printed book to supporters, then we will make it available as a part of our on demand GURPSline.

To jump in when the Kickstarter campaign goes live, please follow both the Steve Jackson Games and Warehouse 23pages on Kickstarter. Once we launch, regardless of which account we use, you'll receive an email notification from Kickstarter and can join right away. And you won't want to miss launch day; the campaign for Dungeon Fantasy Magic Items 2 will not be open long.

And Three More Books Sept 10 through Oct 12

And to follow up on that, while I need to check with my authors (one of whom is under a hurricane watch), there will be three DFRPG products coming to Kickstarter from Gaming Ballistic Real Soon Now.

Hopefully running Sept 10 (the Tuesday after the SJG one closes) through Oct 12:

  • Book 1: The Dragons of Rosgarth (setting info and adventure)
  • Book 2: Forest's End (setting info and several actual dungeons in which to adventure)
  • Book 3: Races of Norðlond (tentative title; 16 pages of half-breeds and beast-men lenses with options and thoughts on how to use them)

My recent experience with doing five short adventures at once has convinced me that while I can only run a few Kickstarters per year, I can definitely deliver more books than I have crowdfunding campaigns.

Shipping Complete
over 4 years ago – Tue, Aug 27, 2019 at 08:08:32 PM

I have received from Studio 2 a shipping spreadsheet and invoice. Looks like, for the domestic set, shipping ran about $400 more than I'd planned. That's not horrible, but it will need to be reflected in future shipments to the tune of about $1-2 more for the base shipping for US packages. Total actual shipping was about $2,900; I collected $2,500 in this segment.

There's a single unfulfilled physical order in the world - a backer from New Zealand who I've been trying to get a hold of but can't - that is pending.

Everyone else is complete.

That means that when I'm finished one other thing, I can revisit my budget and actual expenditures and report back on the profit or loss of this kickstarter. I'd expected a small profit on this one, but I expect shipping and a bit of "hey, I'll order more for retail!" ate into that quite a bit. Still think I broke even; I'll let y'all know.

In any case, while many of you have your books already, nonetheless an email just went out with tracking IDs. Of course ignore them if you don't have your stuff, but if you don't, you can use USPS tracking to see where yours are. For many of you, this is redundant: you already have your stuff. For those that do NOT yet have their stuff, hopefully this will help. Studio 2 sends the shipping/tracking numbers when everything - including billing - is ready. This is after arrival for many folks!

Thanks for joining me on this project! Look for another to start the second week of September if things go to plan.

Here's a "work in progress" cover of one of the books. It's gotten better since then.

Nordvorn Campaign coming to a close
over 4 years ago – Thu, Aug 22, 2019 at 08:01:14 PM

With the US delivery of Citadel of Nordvorn somewhere between "well underway" and "darn near complete," it's time to transition from accepting "pre-orders" on Backerkit to full retail and website availability of the products.

As such, I'm going to close the Backerkit project for The Citadel at Nordvorn this weekend.

There are still 13 people on the "Pending" list who have not completed their surveys. I will be sending them personal emails.

  • Eight pledged $1 or slightly more but were my family members and if they want my stuff they can hit me up at the next family gathering. Some of them know where I sleep. None of these folks actually made a pledge for a reward.
  • Four pledge for PDF only. If they want their stuff, they can contact me via private message and I'll make it happen.
  • One person from Canada is actually in at the Viking Raider level, and at least notionally wanted both books! I hope this person contacts me so I can provide them.

Otherwise, we're complete, with nothing outstanding for delivery intent. That doesn't mean 100% of folks have their stuff yet, and I'm working with Studio 2 to get a status update in hand.

I won't have the project "done" in my mind until the five folks who haven't gotten their rewards claim them properly! But even so, the Backerkit vector for this is pretty much done, and focus will shift to my webstore:

Gaming Ballistic, LLC

Look for the books to show up on Warehouse 23 as well. Probably not on DriveThruRPG and the like, as they take a monster cut of the profit for one, and I have too many extra high-quality physical books to let these go via print-on-demand.

As always, you can contact me with questions, comments, encouragement, or feedback at [email protected], or interact real-time on the Gaming Ballistic Discord Channel.
